This is the first Mother and Child painting that ever happened. As you can see it is quite different from where the series eventually evolved. I had a dream, in fact I had the dream a few times, it was this image. Finally, one day in the studio, frustrated from not letting my self truly out, I painted what was kicking and screaming to get out of me.
